FAQs
"Why Hockey?" Teamwork, self confidence, and determination are just a few of life skills that hockey teaches and embraces. Plus its fun!
"But my child has never been ice skating!" No problem. Keep an eye on the announcements here or check with the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena for upcoming "Learn to Skate" and "Learn to Play Hockey" programs. These programs are fun and affordable ways to introduce your child to the sport of hockey.
"My child wants to play on a team. What do we do?" Great! The hockey season normally runs from October through February. Keep an eye on the announcements for registration. Your child will need to be registered with USA Hockey before signing up. You can do that online, just go to: www.usahockey.com/usahockeyregistration
Then bring a copy of your registration confirmation to sign up with WV Wild.
"We don't have any Hockey gear. How can my child play?" WV Wild (CAHA) offers equipment rental, or you can purchase new or used equipment for your child. Check out our Equipment page for the necessary gear and some tips when making a purchase. Also ask other parents, players, or coaches for advice as well.
"So how much does hockey cost?" Compared to other youth sports the upfront costs of hockey can seem a bit high. Unlike those other sports hockey requires renting ice time for both practices and games. This is the main factor in the registration costs. CAHA works diligently to find ways to keep the sport affordable yet still safe and fun through fund raisers and other activities that help reduce registration costs. Feel free to contact us for exact costs or keep an eye out for registration information in the announcements.
"What else should I know?" Hockey is a great sport, yet its popularity in our area is still low but certainly growing. Since we don't have as many local teams as other youth sports, there can be some travel involved.
